Daisy, I decided that this article you wrote is personally dedicated to me for various reasons (allow me the indulgence), including the reasons you know, and because I have my rom-com coming out next week and I am in a tizzy about how to handle this thing I always struggle with so much. And the part of your article that *really* really sunk in for me is the try to have fun part--what sounds fun for me to do to celebrate this book I've written?! So thank you for a) helping me focus on this and b) just for being so awesome always and writing such a wonderful novel, because PITY PARTY is truly wonderful and surprising and I loved it. Sending so much love and congratulations!
IT ABSOLUTELY IS ALL FOR YOU! Donna - I love reading your books and I love hanging out with you. I honestly think it’s your duty as a fabulous human to give many people the opportunity to read your books and hang out with you! Imagine you’re doing everything for me, and I’m clapping and squealing like a seal. And please do a cake video.
We absolutely do Daisy!!!!! On this topic, I remember seeing (I think it was) Katherine May on Instagram talking about self-promotion & saying something about it being a form of privilege NOT to have to do self-promotion and that really freed me from the feeling of ‘showing off!’
I truly suck at self-promotion and usually feel torn between thinking 'Is this too much/Am I too much?' and 'But who really cares what you have done/think?' So in the end I am stuck.
When you talk about having fun (like I also noticed that Donna touches on too), it reminds me that this is key. And I love Lucy's advice about showing some ankle!
On a side-note, I do remember being told by a teacher at primary school that I was too boastful about an art project that we had worked on in class. Yeah, cos in my 7-year old mind, my work was f*@king awesome! Without analysing my childhood too much here... something definitely switched for me then, and I retreated into myself a bit.
Oooof, Sarah, I’m so sorry that happened. It’s such a primal, formative event. And I think that when we’re kids, we’re never boastful - we’re just matter of fact about when we’ve done well! Lucy’s ‘show some ankle’ is genius because it’s an invitation to reveal and entice without getting too exposed, or becoming too vulnerable. I think it’s something that fluctuates, too. Sometimes I have energy to go big, and sometimes I struggle. It’s the work of a lifetime for us to meet ourselves where we are. X
Love the campaign! And yes to the 'Shouting about other people’s work with genuine enthusiasm' - good recommendations are hard to find, so they're a great way to keep everyone around.
Thank you. Not just for running with the making it fun, but the dedication, for all the support, the warm welcome you gave me when I arrived here, the championing you did for so many. You are honestly one of lifes best ones.
I think I felt more honoured you bid for that one-to-one with me and forever grateful it allowed our worlds to collide.

I could use the clapping today, so I am picturing you here . . .
And omg, if only I had the guts to do a cake video!!!!!
Omg YES TO ALL OF THIS
🥰🥰🥰 Jennie I’m in awe of your campaign and you! And one day I hope we can get together with tea, for we have much to discuss!
