Hello Team CCC! I have some exciting news. I’d like to invite you all to a 90 minute fiction writing workshop at 12PM (BST) Sunday 21 July!
We’ll be talking about getting started, tips and tricks to stay inspired when you lose motivation, how to write great dialogue, how to balance light and dark - and everything you need to know about querying, and working with agents and editors.
All subscribers are invited. If you’d like to come along, all you have to do is pre-order my new novel Pity Party, in hardback, from any of the following retailers. To order the book from Bookshop.org, click here. To order from Waterstones, click here. To order from Amazon, click here. Then, send a screenshot of your receipt to creativeconfidenceclinic@gmail.com, and I’ll send you the joining link!
One winner will be selected at random - they will be offered either a manuscript feedback session with me, worth £350, in which I’ll read and discuss 10,000 words of their work with them - or they can choose a more general one to one mentoring session with me. The winner will also win a selection of signed books.
I’m so excited about this! I can’t wait for you to meet Katherine, and I can’t wait to see you in July!
‘But Daisy!’ I hear you ask. ‘What if I’d love to come but I’m away on my holidays and emptying sand out of my socks on July 21st?’
Don’t worry! The workshop will be available to watch on catch up, at your leisure, so you won’t miss a thing!
‘I preordered ages ago! Can I come?’
Of course! Please do! I’d love to see you! Just take a screenshot of your order, and send it to creativeconfidenceclinic@gmail.com, and I’ll send you the link.
‘This sounds delightful, but I live outside the UK! I don’t think I can get a hardback book sent to me!’
That’s OK! If you’re based outside the UK, you’re eligible to enter if you pre-order the book in any format. E-book or audio is absolutely fine.
‘I’d love some manuscript feedback, and a mentoring session! Is there a way to make this happen if I don’t win?’
Of course! Email creativeconfidenceclinic@gmail.com and I’ll show you how to book me for a one on one session.
‘What is this Pity Party book, anyway? Will I like it?’
Yes! I really hope so! It’s a comedy - the story of Katherine, a perfectionist-in-denial who is suddenly widowed, and thinks she can outrun grief, thanks to her addiction to work, self-flagellation, shame and recycling. But then she makes a mistake, her life unravels and she’s forced to work out what she’s running from - and exactly what went wrong in her marriage…
My writing (and life) heroine Marian Keyes was one of the earliest readers - I’m delighted to report that Marian loved it - and if you love Marian’s novel Rachel’s Holiday (one of my all-time favourites) I think you’ll like this. We’ve had five star reviews from early readers, and…look, this bit is awkward as hell, but I’ve filled this with as much heart, soul and vulnerability as I can bring to the page, and as many jokes as I could possibly muster. As a novelist, I want to bring you joy, and write books that leave you better than they found you. The thing that makes my heart sing, is that early readers are using words like ‘binge’, ‘devour’, ‘romp’, and ‘I literally cannot stop reading, I know it’s a cliche but you couldn’t prise this book out of my hands.’
If you have any questions at all, get in touch! I’m really excited about seeing you in July.
Love
Daisy X
